What to Expect with Laser Hair Removal

Before your Laser Hair Removal appointment, a consultation is required for us to be able to assess your skin, provide thorough information on treatment protocol, and determine the best treatment plan for you.

During your treatment, eye protection will be provided. After we cleanse the skin, a small hand-piece will be used to deliver each laser light pulse. To ensure optimal comfort, our Candela GentleMax Pro® releases a cooling spray on the treatment area before the pulse of laser light is emitted to target hair follicles. A slight stinging sensation is normal as the therapeutic heat is being absorbed by the skin tissue.

Treatment Options

The overall cost of laser hair removal at North Medical Spa will be determined in your consultation, prior to any of your treatments, and will depend on the area treated and how many sessions you will require.

Your Questions
Answered:

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Although the Candela GentleMax Pro® is rated #1 in customer comfort, some guests might experience a mild pinching or tingling sensation. To reduce probability of discomfort, a cooling spray is released from the device prior to each laser flash.

How many sessions do I need to see results?

The number of treatments varies per patient and depends on the area that is being treated, the thickness and color of the hair, and the patient’s skin tone. Because the laser light targets only hair follicles that are actively growing, multiple treatments are required to target all the hair as it grows. We recommend 6-8 sessions for desired results, with each treatment booked 4-6 weeks apart.

How long is the treatment?

The treatment can take 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the existing skin condition, treated area, and desired laser hair removal goals.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe for dark skin?

Unlike many Laser Hair removal machines on the market, our Candela GentleMax Pro® is safe and effective on all skin tones. We choose the settings based on a variety of factors, including each individual’s skin and hair colour.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Once the hair follicle is damaged, it cannot grow new hair. However, there will always be a few hair follicles that manage to partially escape the laser during each treatment. Some of these follicles may only be stunned temporarily and will need to be retreated. Hormonal changes or certain medications may also cause hair regrowth. After completion of your treatment, some individuals may need a “reminder” treatment session once a year. We treat our patients on a case-by-case basis and will be by your side every step of the way on your hair removal journey.

Is there any downtime after Laser Hair Removal?

Some redness and swelling after treatment can be expected, and can last between a few hours to a few days depending on the treated area and whether the patient follows post-treatment protocol.

When will I see the results?

Typically, we can expect 80% hair loss in 3-5 sessions, though it’s important to note that every area will react differently. Some can be challenging and require more time, while others may respond easily requiring fewer sessions.

Can I modify or cancel my package?

Please be advised that all our service packages are non-transferable and non-refundable. Each package holds an expiration date of one year from the date of purchase. This ensures that you have ample time to enjoy the included services and experience the full benefits of our offerings. Should you have any questions or require further information, our team is always available to assist you.

Client Testimonial

“Just had the laser hair removal done on my underarm. I was expecting pain like it always is for me when I’ve had it done it at other places, but this was zero pain for me! It felt like water was squirted at my underarm! It may not be the exact same experience for everyone but for me it was such a great surprise. The equipment they use is the best!”

Pre & Post Care

Pre Care
LASER HAIR REMOVAL

We can’t wait for you to visit North Medical Spa! In order to make sure you are fully prepared for your treatment please take a moment to review this “need to know info” below. We want to ensure that you are fully prepared for your treatment and that you receive the very best results.

WHAT YOUR SHOULD KNOW BEFORE YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT:

If you have melanin-rich skin we require a consultation prior to treatment to be sure that we can safely and effectively treat you.

Blonde and Red Haired clients, unfortunately, this treatment is not for you! Laser is attracted to pigment and your hair color will not attract the light required to remove the hair follicle.

Avoid active sun exposure at least 2 weeks before the procedures, or use sunscreen creams with SPF values higher than 25–30; do not use any self-tanning creams.

Do not use plucking or waxing 1 month before the procedure. All other hair removal methods when the hair root is preserved, e.g. shaving and cutting, are permissible.

Do not apply any irritating compounds such as glycolic acid or retinoids to the skin one week before the procedures.

The procedures have the highest effect in the case of light skin and darker hair. In case of darker skin, skin-bleaching products can be prescribed 4-6 weeks before the procedure.

If you experience perioral viral herpes and if the procedure is to be performed in the facial area, please let us know and we can recommend antiviral therapy. A prescription will need to be filled by your physician.

Laser Hair Removal is safe if you are nursing but we can not perform the treatment while you are pregnant.

Post Care
AFTER YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT:

After treatment, the skin may immediately be red, and the hair follicles where the surface has been treated may be raised or bumpy. Very few patients experience any itching, redness, or bumps. This is normal and the swelling and bumps should disappear within hours of treatment.

Sun exposure after treatment can increase the risk of hyperpigmentation, so we recommend sun avoidance and the use of broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen SPF 30 or higher. In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Written post-treatment guidelines will be provided after your treatment.

Remember that one is a treat, 6 to 8 sessions is a treatment.  Best results present themselves after your complete treatment has been achieved.

Everyone’s skin is different and your results and recovery time may vary. We are here for you! If you have any questions or concerns following your treatment, please let us know.
