A keloid scar is a raised scar that is typically formed from an overgrowth of scar tissue. To reduce the size and appearance of the scar, we use a corticosteroid injection into the scar itself and continue treatment over 4-6 months to dissolve it completely.

The results will start to work immediately. The steroids and anesthetic can help to stop the proliferation of the skin cells in the keloid scar (what are called fibroblasts), and the treatment continues to work over time. Approximately one injection is given a month, for 4-6 months.

There is a minor discomfort in the area. If you’re concerned about pain, you can talk to your Medical Practitioner about a topical numbing cream.
